What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is the new waxing. Well, actually, it is the OLD waxing, dating back to ancient civilizations. Either way, it’s made a huge comeback in recently in Seattle because it is all-natural and significantly gentler on the skin. Plus, sugaring tends to hurt less than waxing because it pulls less on the skin reducing irritation and redness.

Sugaring Paste

Sugaring paste consists of only three ingredients: lemon, raw sugar, and water. That’s it! It is cooked to a think, almost taffy-like consistency. There are no additives or cloth strips involved not only making it more natural but also a more environmentally conscious alternative to traditional wax. Sugaring paste is soft enough to penetrate into the pores, where it adheres to individual hairs, and pulls them out from the roots.

The Sugaring Process

  1. A licensed esthetician starts the treatment by cleaning the skin with a gentle cleanser.
  2. Talc-free powder is applied the area to provide a protective barrier between the skin and the paste.
  3. The esthetician molds the paste in their hands to warm it up and make it easier to work with.
  4. They smooth the warm (not hot) paste on, rubbing it on against the hair growth.
  5. To remove, they then flick the hand back, going with the growth, pulling up hairs with the paste.
  6. Because it is a gentler process and only pulls up dead skin cells, the sugaring paste can be applied to the same area until it is completely clean.

Preparation

Please come to your appointment free of lotion or oil on your skin. Exfoliate the day before to lift off the dead skin cells so the hair will come out easier. Drink lots of water and refrain from drinking caffeine the day of your appointment to reduce discomfort. It is helpful if you wear loose fitting clothing to prevent chafing. We recommend at least 3 weeks of hair growth prior to your appointment as shorter hair may not be ready to be picked up by the sugar. Your service will be over before you know it, many services can be completed in under 15 minutes, including the Brazilian!

After Care

For the first 24-48 hours after your service it is recommended that you avoid tight clothing, hot baths/tubs, saunas/steam rooms, sun exposure, tanning beds, perfumes/scented moisturizers, and exercise that would cause excessive sweating.
